Validation and Verification
All projects are required to undergo independent third-party validation and verification.
Overview of Validation and Verification
The Registry requires independent third-party Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) to conduct assessments of climate mitigation projects in accordance with the requirements of the Registry Standard and Validation and Verification Manual.
-
Project Validation
Conducted either before a project is undertaken or shortly after the commencement of project operations to confirm that the Project Design Document provides a reasonable basis for meeting the requirements of the program.
-
Project Verification
Conducted at least annually once a project is underway to confirm that project objectives are achieved and radiative forcing equations have been quantified according to the requirements of the Registry Standard.
Eligibility Requirements for VVBs
- VVBs for GHR Registry projects must be approved by GHR Registry and be accredited under:
- ISO 14065:2020
- ISO/IEC 17029
- IAF MD 6:2023
- VVBs shall be appropriately accredited for project-level validation and/or verification in the sector of the applicable methodology, and meet the competence to perform the assessments required under the Registry Standard and Program.
- VVBs also be trained to meet additional GHR standards and knowledge competency requirements around the Radiative Forcing Protocol for short-lived climate pollutants.
Process and Information Requirements for Project Proponents
-
Stage 1
Project Proponent selects a GHR-accredited VVB when creating a project on the registry platform.
-
Stage 2
VVB submits a Project-Specific Conflict of Interest Form to the Registry for each registered project.
-
Stage 3
VVB conducts project validation as outlined in the Registry Standard and Validation and Verification Manual.
-
Stage 4
VVB submits the Validation Report to the Registry, accompanied by a Validation Opinion and signed VVB Reliance Letter.
-
Stage 5
Once the Registry reviews and accepts a Validation Statement, the Registry will publish the Validation Report, and other project documentation on the Registry Platform.
-
Stage 6
VVB conducts project verification as outlined in the Registry Standard and Validation and Verification Manual.
-
Stage 7
VVB submits the Verification Report to the Registry, accompanied by a Verification Opinion and signed VVB Reliance Letter.
-
Stage 8
Once the Registry reviews and accepts a Verification Statement, the Registry will publish the Verification Report, and other project documentation on the Registry Platform.
-
Stage 9
The Registry will issue serialized Heat Reduction Credits (HRCs) to the project account.
